About This Blog

Hi I’m Kirsten,

Firstly, “thank you” for joining me on this journey. Let’s hope it doesn’t become the latest hyper focus! I thought I’d take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about me, and why I’ve set up this blog…

As someone who is late-diagnosed Autistic and ADHD, I’ve recently learnt a lot about myself and the wider world, and how neurodiversity plays its part in my experiences.

This blog is essentially my attempt to look at life through a neurodiverse lens. I’m hoping that my ramblings will help others, either by validating their experiences, sharing resources, or even just starting a dialogue. I’m by no means an expert, and have no qualifications relating to the study of neurodiversity; I’m no psychologist or psychiatrist, just passionate about supporting others.

It’s worth noting that just because these are my experiences, does not mean that all people with similar/the same diagnoses will experience the world in the same way.

I’m Kirsten

Welcome to The Atypical Academic – An Insight into the Atypical Mind: Navigating Life, Work, and Everything in Between.

Follow me as I explore the world through a neurodivergent lens in the hope to raise awareness of the challenges neurodiverse people may face, the benefits they can bring, and to share some resources to help anyone with an interest.
